Port St. Joe Fishing Report 3-11-2024
OFFSHORE:
Dave Mason from Forgotten Coat Fishing reports that Triggerfish season opened March 1, and keepers are being caught although mixed in with many short ones. Easiest technique is a double drop rig using 30lb test with light wire 3/0 circle hooks with 4oz weight or smallest weight that gets you down to the bottom. You don’t need anything bigger than a 4000 spinning reel and a medium offshore rod. Remember we can only keep one, but they are some of the tastiest fish out there, so still worth the work to get them! Capt. Chase Wilder of Signal 0 Charters was another of our local captains that had catches of keeper Triggerfish on the car bodies. When Red Snapper and gag, grouper season kick in you want to keep Captain Chase on your speed dial he books up fast
INSHORE:
We have had great reports this week with several limits being caught by our local guides. Capt. Lee Thompson of Shallow Sea Charters caught lots of Redfish and Sheephead. Capt. Pete Barwick of Bounty Bay Charters scored big with a Black Drum, Sheephead ,and Pompano. Capt. Chris Lance of Gettin Reel Sportfishing added another satisfied crew with Sheephead and Black Drum as well.
FRESHWATER:
Our freshwater report is pretty much a carbon copy of last week with catfish on cut bait. Trot lines and bush hooks are doing the trick Crappie are being caught on minnows on Depot Creek so stop and get your minnows and crickets and a vast assortment of bass and panfish lures as well.
